Yes, you have to be a resident of Vancouver, North Vancouver, Richmond or Burnaby to join our club. The other areas surrounding Vancouver (West Vancouver, Surrey) have their own Newcomers’ groups.
Yes, you are welcome to attend two meetings or activities before joining. This is a great way to meet some of the members.
We have members living all over Vancouver. We can assist with trying to find somebody near you.
The annual dues cover our membership year which runs from July 1 to June 30 of the following year. Women joining VNC between January 1 and June 30 pay half the cost of an annual membership.
The club is run by volunteers, so the membership funds go to covering administrative costs and making the club fun. We pay to maintain our website and our membership with the National Newcomers Council of Canada, which includes insurance coverage. Expenses include subsidizing various events, providing treats and prizes at meetings, birthday flowers, renting venues and providing refreshments.
The membership fee covers the cost of joining the club and allows you to participate in as many activities as you like.
The short answer is no! There are some activity groups which meet in members’ homes and the women take turns hosting events. However, hosting is not a requirement for participating. Other groups meet at public venues. The convener of the specific group will be able to give you more details.
The membership fee is non-refundable, so we encourage you to get involved as soon as possible!
A quote from a member: “I knew as soon as I moved to Vancouver that it was an amazing city. Four years later, thanks to Newcomers, it’s an amazing city full of wonderful friends. Thanks VNC!”
